terrible brakes

2001 dakota, when braking on dry payment,the truck hops pretty bad I think the front is doing all trhe stopping,if any loose gravel or slipprey conditions it is dangers trying to stop front wheels keep sliding,need help Thanks

Sounds like you have a very badly warped rotor. If your truck slides around while trying to stop, that's not just brake related, your tires are causing that being that they are getting enough traction.

Any idea if the rear brakes (drums) have been adjusted? The Dakota Club website reported the drums do not self adjust as well as within other drum brake systems. I adjust the rear brakes on a periodic basis (maybe every 10K miles).

I agree with the warpped rotors idea. Another idea may be to bleed your brakes. One side may be recieving more presure than the other. Also, have your alignment checked as that may also be the problem.
