Tonight was a good night! I raced a 99+ GT mustang with 3.73s, flowmasters, drag radials/welds. and I'm stock. So I was cruising around and I noticed this large cowl on a white car behind me..I couldn't really tell what it was at first...but I knew he wanted to play because of how close he was. So I accelerated and he followed behind me. Amazingly, the next light changed red. We both lined up..thats where I noticed the drag radials/welds/exhaust. He revved up and held it...so I knew he was going to try to launch hard. I didn't let that intimidate me and I decided to just stick to my launching strategy. Light green, launched we're going head to head...but a van pulls infront of me so I slow down and get behind the other mustang. We cruise at about 50mph and he makes a u-turn...so I follow him. In second gear, going about 30ish mphs..he floored it and so did I. We ran head to head. I shifted third, pulled ahead...he started pulling...we were even. Then as we shifted fourth he pulled a few lengths away and ultimately won. At the next light I pulled up next to him and he had his window down so I asked him what kind of mods he had...he told me he had 3.73s, exhaust, drag radials/welds and an intake I think he said. He also said he ran a 13.6 before some of his other mods. I had a passenger in the car...and he was by himself. Then I told him I was stock and he looked kind of amazed. So I'd say...his car beat my car...but I drove better than he did. The end.

Sounds like a fun race. Not bad, you did what you could for what you have. Nice death. Late...

haha, sure sk8ter in ny. I mean...having another person in the car definitely doesn't slow me down by atleast a tenth. I mean...weight doesn't matter at all. :screwy:

thats not what im saying, one person isnt gonna make a huge difference. If he runs 13.6(before some of his mods) hes gonna run better then 13.6 now. your in a stock GT, which is a mid-low 14 second car. even without that passenger I still dont think it would have mattered.

Im with Skater.. the other guy claimed he ran a 13.6 before a few of his mods so he is probably running in the 13 flat range now (if what he says is true). You were able to keep up with a low 13/high 12 second car in a mid 14 second car through the top of 3rd gear, even pulling on him through the top of second and into third.... I know anything is possible on the street, but either someones lieing (probably him) or you must be one hell of a driver. The weight factor would have helped him slightly, but I doubt it would have made a difference on the ultimate outcome.

Good race none the less.

Uhhh depending on how FAT the other person is, weight can make a big difference....one other person can make 200 lbs of difference...you hear racers get really excited when they can shave 50 FREAKIN POUNDS off their curb weight, so just think about the ramifications of added weight that is equal to 4 times that.

Mr. Rob Nova, you or so correct, he ran that 13.6 with them mods on and not before, hell my partner got a 2003 GT Auto (picture below) and that hoe was hard press to beat my other partner in the SRT-4 STOCK ( runs 13.9 for sure) with these mods. K&N FIPK CAI, Diablo Tune, and Magna Flow Catback. Hell, My boy had just got the SRT-4 and 2 week before last, learned how to drive a stick on my Mach 1 for 1-hour. When people win, they always say some shit like they were running 10's before the rest of the mods. At least that what I get, or somethings wrong with the tune. However, there is nothing like a good man trans. car with a good driver. Mod up and find dat ass again. Then see what times he's running behind you.

"When people win, they always say some shit like they were running 10's before the rest of the mods." Um? Are you saying that they imply that they were faster before some of their mods? I don't understand. And...I know I'm a pretty decent driver...but this and several of my other runs is making me think I'm either amazing or my car is some kind of freak. A few weeks ago I raced a foxbody and beat him. he was modded. when I told him I was stock he looked at me like I was crazy. and was like "stock!?". This weekend I'm looking into some exhaust/4.10s. It's gonna be good. :)

oh. and truemach1racer..you brought up SRT-4s...I've had almost identical runs with them where we run head to head until 4th, then they pull away.

All you have to do is get a track time then you would know how "amazing" your car is.

Racing on the street is a poor way to check performance, IMHO.

Yes, imply they are always faster than most stock when they talk to you. YOU ARE A GOOD STICK DRIVER, IF YOU RAN A SRT-4 HEAD UP AND HE PULLED A LITTLE. Those 4.10 on man trans car will be hard to launch with if you get them, however they will get you off the line hard. Get stick tires. Make sure you don,t get Flow Master exaust. And i trust you on the SRT-4, he was not as good of a driver as you on his car. Those cars have bad launches because of the front wheel drive and trubo changing the torque. I also raced my friends SRT-4 for him, the key was reving the car to get the car into boost and slip the clutch at 2100 rpms. Most guys with the SRT-4 stock launch at 1850 rpm and drop the clutch, they bog off line or don't get the car into boost before the launch, thus making them easy prey. This lack of driving causes a 13.9 car to go to a 14.3 car. Turbos have alway been tricky. Keep on killing people with skill and mods, if you just kill with mod you will have not money left.

Jeff got a very good point, I've just never made to the track. On the way me and a friend was racing and then a cop gave chase. He knew we was going to the track cause aint nothing else close so i keep going faster pass the track. Could not afford that 100 plus mph ticket until tax return, so had no other option.

For real, don't ever do dumb stuff like i did, and i never plan to that again.

In my humble opinion, the speed of your car isn't as important to the cars you beat...track times are in a perfect world....straight, perfect pavement, with your car working under optimal conditions...after all, it isn't your ET that matters, it's if you cross the finish line first, in any form of racing, unless we are talking about autocross and rallying and the like, where they don't/can't race together on a track....if you have a mid-14 second car and beat a low 13 second car, it just makes you that much more bad ass.

I'm gonna get 31 spline axles before I get drag radials. I don't want to break an axle :(. and I agree with you street racer 00.

I have never cared for the track myself. People are not talking nonsense about my car on the track. The phrase, “That’s not a Mustang Cobra, so I know you don’t want it with me” is often heard on the street. Guys are always pulling up add looking at me like I’m short or something on the street. Soon enough, as KILLS are given out at a merciless rate, I WILL TEACH THEM NOT TO MACH ME ANY MORE.http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/evil_lol.gif I don't care if I ever run a 12, 11, or 10 flat cause hell; I would not be the first to do that. However, I will try to be the first to embarrass the fool that let his friend without a nice car talk him into a race he didn't want any part if he knew what was good for him. There is always that friend sit next to you trying to gas your head up to whip dat ass and will be the first to remember how bad your ass got whipped. I believe in trying to make a lasting impression, hell to many have been made at my expense, thus said my friend while recalling his memories of riding next to me in my 91 Chevy Beretta GT.http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/banghead.gif

YOU ARE TOO RIGHT ABOUT THE AXLES, but you don't have to run slicks. It could just be a more summer tire that slickish. If you have an everyday driver, Try some Goodyear F1's or Firestone Fire Hawks. That more of what i'm looking for so i don't break the axle but get out the hole better and get around on a rain or snow day.

[QUOTE=dampachi]"Displacement is no replacement for BOOST".QUOTE]

"Displacement is no replacement for BOOST"., so just what the hell does this mean? You do drive a Ford 4.6 SOHC 16valve motor car. Where the boost in this?
