i have a 2000 civic si and i wanna drop it. ive heard things like just buy springs if youre just a reg. driver. buy the whole shibang if you race it. i dont race it. i just wanna drive it to work and school. ive also heard if you put springs on oem shock and struts.. youll be buying whole new ones in about 6 months. and how will putting 17s on it effect anything? thanks for the help

If you are going to do it, do it right the 1st time that way you don't have to disassemble and reassemble your suspension twice.
And no you don't have ot race to do it right. Many people will say just put lowering springs on your stock shocks, then complain the ride is rough - well that's what will happen if you do this way. Because aftermarket springs over-tax the stock shocks. Stock shocks were meant for stock spring rates.
And yes 17s will wear out the suspension system faster since it takes more energy to move a heavier wheel up and down. As to how long? I do not know.

Keep your stock si rims or give them to me :grinyes: , they will look cleaner then most rims out there.

spring provide a more comfortable ride when dropping than coilovers. but like said above.. make sure u do it right the first time. took my 3 times to do it... not right but ok. i think tokico full coilovers would be good cuz it looks like they use progressive rate springs on the coilovers and the struts are also adjustable... so pretty much cruising and race is in one setup. but i never seen the tokico coilover in person but only in pics so i could be wrong.

well are there any springs out there that i can buy with the same spring rate that my oem shocks/struts can handle? so i dont have to go buy new ones after 6 months.

Yeah stock springs :) The reason you have to increase the spring rate for a lowered/shorter spring so you prevent bottoming out of your shock and your car. The lower you go the harder the spring has to be.
