engine rattles at 3000 rpm....whats wrong?

i have a 97 gs-r and it rattles in every gear at 3000 rpm. it sounds like the heat sheild but i am not sure...i am just wondering if anyone has any idea what it could be??

you're probably going in the right direction as far as it possibly being a heat shield, check the one on the manifold and the one on the cat converter... if it's not the heat shield with the car running manually open the throttle plate back and forth and see if you can locate where the rattle is coming from.

do u have an aftermarket header? if you do it could be hitting against the oil pan. if not then check the heat shield.

all of my aftermarket shit rattles. in fact im taking off my exhaust this weekend im sick of it. my header is touching my oil pan as well... LOL

Had the same problem on two different occasions. Usually a heat shield (From my experience). THe first time, it was the one on the header with a loose bolt. The second time, one of the bolts on the Catalytic converter heat shield had rusted out. Just prop it on ramps and have a looksie.
If it's on the Cat or b or Y pipe, one of those metal pipe straps wil usually do the trick (~$3 at most hardware stores)

every integra I have ever seen has a rattle at 3000 rpm. It is from the heat shield over the exhaust piping right after the Y-pipe but before the resonator. to fix mine I just cut it off right behind the shifter. it was about a 2 foot piece of shield and there is no longer a rattle.
