98 4 wheel engagement problem

Hi,
Got this 98 at a dealer auction. While there it would go into 4 low but not 4 high. Got it home and changed the vacum switch on the transfer case. Now I have neither 4 hi or low. Disconnect the battery and reconnect and it blinks from 4 hi to 4 low a few times and goes back in to 2. Then if you push either button it clicks and blinks once. The clicking seems to come from the passenger side kick panel. The accuator under the passenger head light is not pulling the front differential in to a lock either.

On another note the heater will not blow heat to the floor. It will go to defrost or vent but no floor. Could this be related to the 4x4 problem and not having enouhg vacum?

Where is the vacum canister? Is there anything I can do to narrow down what the possiblities might be?

TIA,
Sharky

check the fuse for the 4 wheel drive inside the drivers door on the side of the dash

Hi,
I checked the fuses, all are good. I also changed the valve on the left, top side of the transfer case. I am going to check that thing on the firewall I read about next.
Thanks,
Sharky

Did you check the vac hose going to the vac resivoir attached to the hood? Also check your vac servo under the battery tray. Check for any cracks or tears and check the hose that leads from that servo to the vac switch on the transfer case. You may also wanna che3ck the hose connection at the vac switch and make sure it's on the key...Even though they are keyed, you can still put them on backwards...

And to answer your other question, if there any cracks/vac leaks in the system, it can affect the vent system.

Hey,
Thanks for the check list. I can't find the vacum canistor. We traced lines and thought it to be under the ABS controller. The line on the vacum switch on the transfer was was checked by 2 people and is on properly. The vac servo under the battery and lines will be double checked this weekend.

Any idea why disconnecting and reconnecting the battery would make it act differently?

Thanks,
Sharky

The vac cannister is the round ball attached to your hood, if it's not there then you may be missing it which would explain some of your issues
