I bought a 96 Lumina and installed a new ignition switch. Now it will not start. I know there is a chip on the key, which has to match the security system. I want to know if there is a way to reset the sec. system to the key manually. If I know the code # of the key is there a way input this into the sec. system ? Any and all help will be appreciated. Also I know the key code from th VIN # and it does not match the sec. system.

I don't know of a way to reset the VATS module, as it is programmed to permenantly store the first code it gets (i.e. the first time the car's cranked). If it was a police model, then the ignition is jumpered to bypass the vats module, and replacing the ignition switch might activate it.

Although before jumping to conclusions, does the SECURITY light do its little jig when you try to crank it? If not, you may just have a borked switch (or improper installation).
