Transmission fluid change

What is the best way to go. Do a power flush or have them drop the pan and put in new filter. Just brought the truck has 95000 on it and fluid looks good. Was told by the dealer that they dont change the filter when they do the power flush any more. What is your thoughts on this.

have the filter changed, it's the safest way,I took one out of my old s-10 and flushing it is not goin to get all that crap out, especially if it hasn't been changed before.

Good question. My guess is that the trans appriceated the new fluid and decided to reward you by not making any unpleasant noises.

A new filter should be less restricted than a used one so the internal pressure might be less allowing for a smoother shift

bring it to a rep. tranny shop let them do the tranny fluid CHANGE for you, if you flush after 90k and it hasnt being flushed befor you risk PUSHING all the dirty shit thru your tranny, this can result in a transmission malfuntion or failure, most shops wont do a flush for you unless you do it every 50k for that reason so with that said do the fluid change first then flush after if you wish,a fluid CHANGE wont change the fluid in the torque converter but a flush will, also their is little plastic parts in the valve body that the tranny shop can do a visual on to see if you should change because they do wear out! got to sonnex transmission or 4l60e.com for more info. now would be a good time to install a shift kit or the corvette servos for alot smoother 1-2 shifts...dont F with the tranny unless you have 3000kcnd for a new one let the tranny shop do it for you they know best! good luck

Every time I do this I notice a black coating on the inside of the pan, and some sludge on the bottom, maybe some buildup on the magnet. All normal from what I've seen but it doesn't make sense to flush out the old fluid and replace with new, with fresh detergents and additives, knowing that's in the pan and filter. Had several GM trannys go +200K miles with nothing but filters and five quarts of fluid every 40K miles or so.
