Ok, here goes.
First of all, this happened to my wife. And, this is what she told me.

-Car was sitting on a downhill slope
-Started up the car
-Put in reverse
-Turned on headlights
-Started to back up
-Car died very briefly and all the system lights (on dash) lit up (like they do when starting the car)
-Car did not completely stall
-Proceeded to back up again
-Again, the car seemed to momentarily die without completely stalling
-and again, all the system lights lit up.
-check engine light stays on now.

I drove the car to work today (46miles) power was fine, everything seemed ok (except for check engine light).

Could this be a battery terminal?
I don't have a clue.
Anyone have any ideas???
Thanks a million!!!!!!!

A similar thing happened to me quite a while ago. It was a day after I had connected my battery back up. I tightened it up and never had the problem again.

thank you for the response.
i replaced the battery, and have not had the problem again..
but, the check engine light is still on.
someone told me, it could be the mass airflow sensor.
but, i don't think cavaliers have them, do they?

The check engine light could be one or more of a hundred things. I just got back from GM for emmissions test and my light was on for weeks too. They hooked it up and it turned out to be some solenoid for gas vapour or some weird thing. (I replaced it) Some people told me it must be the 02 censor and others said it was my gas cap, so you really never know until you hook it up to a computer. Good luck!
