99 Taurus Starting Problem

Ok, I have a 99 Taurus six cylinder, when the car sits for awhile I have a hard time getting it started. (For awhile I mean 10 hours or so.) In the mornings when I try and start it, it will just make a winding sound, I have to reset the key to off and then try again. So far eventually it will kick in and start, usually with a "clunk" sound. (outside temperature doesn't seem to make a difference)
Now when I have been driving the car around awhile it will start up normally. It only seems to give me trouble when it sits for awhile.
This morning was the worst its been, I thought it wasn't going to start at all. (outside temperature doesn't seem to make a difference)
This has been going on for a couple of months now.
Does this sound like a starter?
Thanks in advance,
Qbart
