After getting sick of racing Scions TCs,Mazda 6s and Jeep Liberties :eek7: (hey, I was provoked by high school kids, and never posted about any of them), I finally got a good race. :grinyes:

This morning on my way to the gym before work at around 6 am, there is usually absolutely almost no traffic. (This area is usually packed - I355 and Route 56 in Downers Grove, for all the Chicago area people)

There was a car on my ass the whole time. I was going 55 in a 50 mph zone and there was just one lane. I didn't recognize the headlights. So once the lane spread into two, he got into the one next to me. There was noone behind us and noone in front of us. We got a red light, I looked over and it was an older guy (probably mid 30s) I knew it was a Lexus, but didn't know which one.

When it turned green he took off pretty fast. I wasn't expecting that so I just followed. Usually, if I'm not prepared to race, I don't play catchup. I was hoping that we'd get another red light and right before he was about to cross the next intersection, it turned red so he slowed down. I turned traction control off but left it in auto. When it turned green, he took pretty quickly off again, chirping his tires. I didn't wanna look stupid in case he didn't go again, so I took off rather slowly, but floored it at abuot 15 mph - where he was about a car ahead. I slowly passed him and by 65 I was a car ahead. We had to slow down though for another red light.

This time, I put it in first and I knew it was on. When it turned green, he chirped his tires again, but I gave it enough throttle not to spin my tires and was right there with him. I pulled a car and a half in first, chirped into second and by 65 I was at least 3 cars ahead of him before I slowed down because of traffic up ahead. The rest of the traffic behind us was way back. By this time, I still had no idea which Lexus it was, but it was pretty quick. It was faster than the IS300 that I raced one time. He caught up looked over and just smiled. Pretty cool guy. He merged into the right lane to get on the highway. That's when I slowed down just to look at which one it was. (I hate not knowing which car I raced, that's why mine is debadged  ) and it took me a while to see the "LS400"

I gotta admit that I didn't know a lot about these cars before, but I respect this one a lot more now. Pretty fast 4 door luxury Sedan.

Nice kill Type S. Anyone know what kind of engine is in those cars? I like the whole not racing if you're not ready thing, it's an easy kill for other people who flash their hazards as soon as they're ahead and won't run you again.

Yah my parents used to have a 95 lexus LS400. I think they have a 4L v8 rated around 250hp. It wasnt much off the line but once it got going it was fairly quick.

I'm suprised that an LS400 would give you a better run than an IS300....LS400s are land yachts, with a relative low horsepower V8...IS300s are no powerhouses, but they have a peppy I-6 and weigh about 1000 lbs less, give or take a few...lol I find it funny that some dude in a Luxury sedan was trying to mob you, that's too great.

comin in a little late here, but nice kill. not often you get to race a luxury car because usually it's old people who drive so slow they are almost going backwards driving them. haven't really looked into it, but i hear the chrysler 300 packs some pretty good power. i'd love to see what it could do, it's my favorite luxury car right now.

lol I love debadged cars...I took the maxima emblem off the back of mine.

But that sounds kind of like what happened when I was in a surprise death to a 3.2 TL...I had been taking off KIND of hard from a couple lights, not enough to chirp tires or anything, then at this one light the TL is next to me. He's inching up, I'm not payin him any mind (most of the time when people do that they take off slow anyway around here), but he chirped his tires so I was kind of startled.

I was already taking off relatively quick again, so I just run out 1st gear and shift into 2nd kind of slowly somehow and he had a car on me. I just ran out second (approx. 60 mph) and he had about 2 car lengths on me. I'm guessin if i had a decent launch and shift i'd have been right there with him...or at least a lot closer to him...

Yeah, a HEMI in a 4 door sedan better haul some ass.

I have no idea how fast the car is in the quarter mile since I haven't had the mods for long enough to go test them on a track, but quite a few people have almost gotten into 13s with the same mods, mostly low 14s though.

I posted a link in my thread, I guess the LS400 has 290 hp and 300 lb/ft of torque and does the 0-60 in 6.4. It's a quick car.

And whoever has the newest quicktime with plugins,

my 0-60

my 20 mph roll to 70

Don't ever drive, while taking a video and try to shift at the same time :screwy: :grinno: It might be slow to some of you, but it IS a luxury car, so I'm pretty happy.

yeah those lexus's are not bad cars at all. my neighbour just bought one with a full bodykit, rims and full factory options and yes its the V8. They're pretty fast cars, faster than one would expect anyway. good race buddy.
