brake rotor removal

I have a '94 1ltr. manual tranny and I was trying to put new rotors on,is there any other way to get hubs off without buying a slide hammer? I have found some mistakes in my chiltons book and hope there is another way,thanks for any help!

Well, there's 2 kinds of rotors they used on Metros. One does require a slide hammer to remove the whole hub assembly. The other is held on by 2 philips head screws. Do you have a digital camera?

Yes I do have a digital camera,and no I have not yet tried to download a picture from it.I will try to get a picture posted by sunday sometime,but I am pretty sure mine need the slide hammer,I was just looking for an easy way out!

The convertables had the slide on rotors and the rest had the bolt on. I assume from your post you have a hard top. I have pulled the hub off with a spare and a hammer before but this is not recommened. If you have an O'reilly's or Autozone near you can rent the puller for free. The only problem I have found is the mounting flange is too big on some of the pullers so you need the make it work. The rotor is held on the hub by 4 12mm head bolts.

You can try the old trick of using a chain attached to the hub with two lug nuts and using a heavy hammer, pound on the chain until it comes off. Be careful doing this, I once had a hub come flying off after I became impatient using this technique. It flew off, all at once, and slammed into my knee cap. My knee wasn't the same for a month!
