Ball Joint Replacement (97 Blazer, 4x4)

Can anyone tell me if I will have to drill out any rivots to replace the upper or lower ball joints on my '97 4x4? What about needing to use a special compression tool?

The replacement parts are designed to use the 4 bolt mounting plate so I want to clarify this before I attempt the job. Note: I haven't looked at my set-up... But I start the job tomorrow. You all are so good about getting back to us want-a-bees that I thought I could hurt to ask.

If there are any tricks I should be aware of, please let me know. For example, I read I should put the tranny in 4x4 mode and then shut off the engine... Why? I can remember, but that's the stuff I'm talking about.

Thanks....

If the upper ball joints are still riveted in, it might be easier to cut the rivets with a hammer and chisel rather than drill them out. Wear safety goggles.

You can grind or drill out the top ones (Either is much easier than hammer and chisel) Grinding is the prefered method. Your replacement ones will use bolts and nuts.
