96 Cavalier air/heat problem

My '96 cavy has an air/heating problem that I can't seem to figure out. When I turn it on it won't work unless I turn the control all the way up. Any other setting and the air won't even come out the vents. It's the same for my defrost also. Anyone out there wanna give me some ideas as to what is wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Coil packs or wiring

its the blower motor resistor. a small circuit board located directly behind the blower motor directly above where your passenger puts his feet. easy fix about 30 bucks.

yep. not really easy though due to it's location. If you lay upside down in the pass seat with your head in the footwell, Youll see the round plastic covering the blower motor and behind a plug on a grey clip. The gray bit is the culprit. you'll need to be limber and you'll need a 7/32 socket. remove the 3 holding the blowrr motor in place and remove the plug and lower this out without forcing it! Disconnect the plug from the resistor and undo the front screw. There is another diagonal to theis which is right up against the firewall and very hard to get at. I smash the bottom from the old resistor and then remove the screw with and open ended 7/32 wrench. I then install the new resistor and only put one screw in it. then plug it in and replace the blower motor, pluggind this in too and you're done. I helped someone recently with this, they got the resistor from AutoZone for $21 after tax.
