mercury sable airbag problem

hi!, im new to this board but it looks like people actually answer questions on this one.

well i have a 97 mercury sable, it runs fine and all but recently my air bag light has started coming on..when i turn the car on it flashes and stays on. does this mean my airbags dont work, or is it just a electrical problem or something, because the light is very annoying and im worried especially with the snow that i might actually end up getting into an accident and have it not work.

is there anything i can do to check it, or reset the light or something?

btw i just noted how it flashes..it flashes 4 times, then pause..then 2 times, then long pause...then it does the 4 and 2 thing again like 5 times then the light becomes solid..i dont know if this helps or anything but i hope it does

it's more than likely an electrical problem if it just started coming on and it always hasn't been on.

it's sending a trouble code because there is a problem involving the airbag. You are going to have to take it to a garage and have it diagnosed.
