Hey i am new to this forum and i just got my 2g 4 months ago...and now i am a proud owner of this dsm. I was hoping you could all me with my car. I got alot of questions that need answering please.
1. What are the blue lights you can find on BMW's called?
2. Is there any high flow cat that will pass smog testings in California?
3. Is there any smog legal way to increase the sound of my muffler, because i can barely hear it.
4. Can you hear a GReddy Type-S BOV if there is nothing else under the hood or no boost control?
5. How would i make my center tail light black, just paint it?
Thanks
Chris

1. HIDs anywhere from 300-500
2.Yep you can get some high flow cats from summitracing.com i would say or any other performance store. Cost: 100-300
3. YEa i think most exhausts are smog legal. Im pretty sure most mufflers are smog as well. Anyway, i wouldnt really worry about it unless your local law enforcers are very strick on it.
4. Yes you can but you may need to get a special flange to fit on your stock ICP. I would go with a cheaper option which is the 1g bov for a bout 50-80 new and 20 and under used.
5. Umm not sure, but i would just leave it.
Also, next time leave the year and type of dsm you have i.e. turbo, n/a. Hope this helps!

yes you can hear the greddy type s, but i would reconmend getting a hard intake pipe. if you plan to recirculate the bov (reconmended for better idle) the sould you hear is the air reflecting off the intake pipe. a hard aluminum pipe will echo louder than the stock rubber pipe. you would be able to hear the stock 1g bov, but a type-s should be louder.
only thing that affects your emmsions on your exhaust is the cat. if you get a cat back system it won't change anything, only make it louder and push more ari
Yes you can paint the middle break "light". it doesn't light up. best thing to do is to buy a used middle light and take it too a paint shop and have them paint it to match the car, then put it on and keep your stock one. this way if you want to go back or they mess up you always have the stock peice.

yea i was thinking of painting my middle piece also on my GS, just for it to look good. But then i had second thoughts. It calls too much for attention.

you can get a high flow cat if you want but from what i here California is very very strick and i know here in fl when we did do them test you would not pass with a high flow, but now they are really easy to put on and take off. if you wanna do that. i don't have one so........

Thanks everyone for the help. So if i get a Cat back system i can pass the cali smog tests? and i think my turbo is dying...my car has 170k on it (highway miles). when the turbo is spooling up i can feel it kinda skipping and my car jolts until it spools up completely.

sounds more like spark plugs, a turbo wouldn't 'skip' at all. a cat back has nothing to do with emissions, so yes, you will still pass with it. In the future if you have questions, please try to search first instead of using this thread as your own personal Q and A session. We all had a million questions when we first bought our cars but most of the info is already online. :)
