check engine light + mofe

97 stratus - Help - I drove through standing water & within a block, the check engine light came on. What did water have to do with this? Now the car is bogging down, guzzling gas, black smoke pouring out, and to top it all off, now there is no heat in the car. What in the world happened? Any ideas or suggestions before I take it into be repaired?

Sounds like when my 1995 Neon Sport had bad wire leads to the points/plugs.
The wires and harness may need to be replaced because when dealing with a fairly large amount of water, its probably a short of some kind.
But then again I work in telecom.

If your check engine light came on, you can find out the codes; turn your key on/off three times ending in the off position. Count how many times the check engine light flashes; for example if it flashes twice then pauses then flashes another four times, that's a code 24.
