I have a 1986 bmw 325E and the engine will not turn over. Last day I had it working and driving was new years eve and ever since new years day the engine will not turn over. It also didnt like starting when it was cold and I usually got it running if it was over 35 after about 5 minutes of trying to start it. Now when you try to start it, the rpm tach sits at 0 and does not move at all. It just keeps trying to start. The battery is a week old and it still will not start.

I had the mechanic look at it and he said its not getting any spark and he needs to do longer diagnotics on it to see what it is. brand new battery and new spark plugs so I dont know what it could be.

Coil , first...easy to replace, go out with out notice sometimes.. could be start relay, or could be the computer.. Just some things to check. Later, mark

Mechanic said he needs to put it on the computer to find out what is wrong with it. wants close to 250 to do that. Is it worth it? Plus they said the car has a few oil leaks. Should I sell the car or keep it. Has about 170k miles on it and runs great when it does run.

if you are not taking it to a BMW mechanic then don't take it any where... this is a 10min. fix... there are 2 sensors on the side of the trans, you could see them from under the drivers side of the car. They have a 5mm screw in them.. take the screw out, pull out the sensor and unplug it... the sensors are about $100 each.. they are the same, so just try the top one first...

I just found out what it was. There was a bad connection in a battery block so not everything was getting enough power from the battery to start up. But theres a power block that needed to be repalced and Ill let u know exactly what it is when I get the car back. I could also use some information on how to check where oil leaks are comming from and how to install a power steering pump.
