Tonneau Covers for Tundra

I have a 2005 Toyota Tundra SRF Crew Cab (the double cab). I have narrowed down my selection for a lid to SnugTop's SnugLid SL, and the Leer 700 series. I'd like to hear what anyone out there has to say about either brand. They seem to compare evenly in terms of construction, convenience, and security. Looking for other opinions to help me make a decision between them. Right now, the Leer gets my vote for the design (which is a little more interesting to me than the flat line of the snuglid) and for the price which is a couple hundred less than the SnugTop.

All knowledge you share with me on this is very much appreciated.

I put a Gaylord lid on my 2000 Tundra in 2002. The bed began to crack in the top corner after about 6 months. Whichever lid you end up buying, make sure there is a crown over the top of the front of the bed that the lid hinges are mounted to. My hinges were drilled/mounted directly to the top surface at the front of the bed and opening and closing the lid as well as driving fatigues the metal at the corners.

I think SnugTop lids come standard with the cap or crown on them.

I saw this "Form Fit" unit hanging on the wall at my Toyota dealer, had to have it.

List price at the dealer was about $115, about the same as listed on the autoseattle website.

Thanks again for the tip. I took a look at this page, but I can't get a good look at the product. The picture is too small. In any case I decided on the Leer 700 series for the tonneau cover. I am getting it with keyless entry.

I'll let you know how it rates once it arrives and is installed.

My buddy, who owns both a 4 runner and a Tundra ext cab ended up buying a genuine Toyota tonnue. He went with this one:

It was only $179.90 and genuine Toyota. Fits fine and easy to install. Good thing because he's not the best at working on his truck and I'm being kind.

I have the Leer 700 series on my 05 D Cab 4x4. It has a very nice fit and finish with a single center push button release. In addition it wraps around the sides of the bed to cover the black plastic bed protector rails.

Nice looking Tundra StrechM!!!! I'm looking into a double cab myself but these freeking gas prices have me scared off for a bit. lol. :)

The Leer cover with its raised center panel does compliment the Tundra's hood lines. I saw several at the dealer and it was the better looking of the choices. I have not tried to remove it although it does appear fairly easy with two adults. It has a good deal of insulation and it cannot leak because of its configuration.

We just made it back this Tuesday from a 5 day trout fishing trip in the eastern Sierras that required driving up hwy 50 to So. Lake Tahoe, up 89, up 88, down through Markleeville, up and over Monitor Pass then south on 395 and averaged 15.9 mpg. That is not bad for 5000# 4x4 loaded with 2 passengers, luggage and tackle.

Gas prices were a wake up call in Bridgeport at $2.99 a gallon for regular.
