Engine Swapping

Hi folks, I am a newbie here so please forgive me if I post in the wrong place or screw up elsewise. I have two Geo's (actually one's a Chevy) and want to know if I can swap engines. The info is as follows;
Auto #1: Chevrolet Metro, 1998, 3 cyl. 1.0L ? . Note, this is the one with the no good engine. VIN # 2C1MR2Z63W6701858, Engine #993CM
The compression on this one is about 45 to 75 psi.
Auto #2: Geo metro, 1993, 3 cyl. 1.0L ? . This engine has fairly good compression in all cylinders ie., between 160 and 174 psi.
VIN # 2C1MS2464R6731425, Engine #993CM
I want to know if I can put the engine from auto #2 into auto #1 ? I realize that there will be electrical differences with the computer and possibly some other components. Also maybe with the fuel system.
Since the "Engine #'s" and the 6th digit in the VIN ie., "a 2" are the same, I think that they may be interchangible. If anyone here has any information about this or can point me in the right direction, I would surely appreciate it. Thanks in advance. John

the engines will swap with no problems. all you have to do is swap over the intake manifold and the distributor, real easy to do and then all your wiring will plug right on

Hi there Crvette69, What is the difference on the intake manifold and distributor ? I know that '95 is a cutoff point in the literature that I have read. On the intake manifold swap, can I use either carb ? On the distibutor swap, why ? what is the difference. Thanks a million for your post. Ps: I am set up to do this and have a lot of experience, it doesnt look very difficult to do. John

sorry, i misread the year on the one you want to put the motor in, the 98 should have a crank angle sensor on front of engine and the older one will not so unless you want to rewire the car its not gonna swap over. better off driving the 93 if you can and either buy a engine on e-bay or try to find one of the JDM imports, aoneengine.com sells them too but you should be able to find one closer to save on shipping

hi Crvette69, Thanks, I knew it sounded too good too be true. In fact I had just told someone where the crank position sensor was located (bottom front of the oilpan) on another forum. DejaVu or something to that effect. Unfortunately the '93 is Not driveble (too much body damage), the '98 body and interior is cherry, the tranny is good, just the engine is cooked. I have a '97 Geo but, the engine is questionable. Another engine for the '98 is about $500 rebuilt less shipping. I guess I will tinker with what I have and keep on a lookin'. Thanks again.

I'm wondering... what's the cause of your low compression. If you do a compression check after shooting some oil in each cylinder and it stays the same, then it's safe to assume you got some burnt valves. If that's the case, according to info I've read, then you could just get a rebuilt or used head from any 1.0 Metro (1989 to 2000) and have it up and running in no time. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
