Help me quiet the road noise... where to apply sound deadener?

I have a '93 Civic hatchback and the road noise is driving me nuts. I bought some sound deadener from Cascade Audio Engineering (CAE). I bought 2 packs of VB-2, a box of VB-2HD, and some VB-5 gasket foam. Where should I apply this stuff to have the best results? I'm going to start on the inner and outer panels inside of my doors today... but where else should I apply this stuff?

In the interior underneath the carpeting? How do you think I would go about doing that without ruining the carpet and other stuff (you'd be surprised what I can ruin).

has anyone used the cascade audio vb-1s damping spray (http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?DID=7&PartNumber=268-250)? does it go on well and clean-up easily?

ghetto, yes you have to take the carpet off, Just remember how you took it off! you put the seats in quite nicely, so therefore you should be able to do this without problems.

as for the spray, i've seen people buy rubbercoating spray and use that and people say it works well for 4 bucks
