Here's a problem for you--wont start when cold

2000 Pontiac Grand Am. When cold it will not start(below zero). If it is towed, it will start every time at the shop(four times now and counting). It also dumps gas into the oil during the start attempts from flooding. Replaced plugs, wires, 3 sensors and a fuel pump. Suspect theft lock module, as it did start once by using different key. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thayerinc, I just looked at your problem that you have been having with your car and recently found out that the Grand Am's with the "Ignition Control Modual" (ICM) if you have a Quad 4 have been found to have the problem that when the temp drops below 30 degrees the chip opens and can short out. That is one of the problems I'm trying to solve on mine right now. So, if it runs with out problems when it is warmed up outside, then that might be one of the problems. The ICM I found at Auto Zone for $135.00 but you might have luck at a junk yard. Hope this helps you. Good Luck!

Tayerinc, I just found out last night that the oil pump has a check valve that gets stuck when it is also cold out, causing too much pressure in the oil (150 to 200) Causing the car to foul out and cause a multi cylinder missfire code come up. The only solution that I found was to replace the oil pump with a upgraded check valve and spring. One way to check if this might be the problem would be to get the car warmed up in a garadge or a block heater. hope this might shed some light on your problem.

Might want to use 5W30 oil at subzero temperature.
