Dead window.

My driver-side front window seems to have become disengaged. I can hear the motor running (up and down), but window just seems to drop as if nothing was holding it.
I was able to get enough of the door panel off to see a little of what's going on. The large gear does move with the window, so I'm assuming that either a belt or internal gear is shot.
Does anybody know how to remove the door panel without destroying it? If I get that far, is anyone familiar with this problem? Am I looking at replacing the motor? Would I be better off trying to find a replacement door at the salvage yard?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

It sounds like the cable in the window regulator is broken, you need a new regulator and power window motor, you can try a junkyard or you will have to go to a dealer........ get a haynes manual to show you how the door panel comes off and how to replace the regulator...
