Seat-back Release

I have the well-documented plastic gear problem with the driver's seat in my '94 325iC and have gotten it in the best position and will live with it. there is another problem with that seat, however, that I'm not sure I can just live with. The seat-back release seems to be broken. It just flops (the release lever, not the seat back).
Would that be related to the other problem or is it an easier fix? It's a PITA not to be able to lean the seat forward.

I am in the middle of trying to repair one of those crappy plastic gears. Like you my seat back wouldn't move because of that gear. The lever that adjusts the back is separate from the gear problem. Most likely the cable that is connected underneath the seat is broken or has come off of it's housing. You have to remove the 4 screws and look under the seat. That is really not to hard to do.
