Fuel Filter Stuck

1997 Caviler Z-24, went to have the fuel filter replaced and both the dealer and one other place said that it was stuck on, i.e., the retaining clip seemed to be missing and the filter was stuck to the line that goes to the sending unit in the tank. The dealer said that they will wait for a cav to come in that needs a sending unit and use the line that they take off, and another place said there was a kit that they could adapt in to it. Anything would be better than 400.00 for a sending unit. Anyone hear of this problem?

uh... one end of the fuel filter just screws on the line and even with the clip broken it can still be taken off...you need to get yourself a really thin piece of metal that has more then 100 degree bend in it. Get between the fuel filter and the fuel line. Push in on the metal piece you have and that should push the retaining clipback and release the filter. Newer ones have a better design than the old ones. Also be very carful not to puncture anything..

Which leads me to this, they tried that and they couldn't feel the retaining clip when they did that and it wouldn't release. Can you adapt something to that line?

Some one who knew what the hell they were doing would be able to get it off... There are ways that i can think of but not sure how safe they would be since it would require cutting and since its around gas, i don't think i would want to attempt it.

It's really hard to remove. I basically destroyed mine upon removal. The replacement filter does not attach the same way as the OEM.
