Rev problem

Okay, I just read the FAQ section and a bunch of other threads, but I couldn't find anything about the problem I am experiencing. I have a '95 Stealth, R/T NA and my car is acting weird. It revs at all different RPMs, from about 900 sometimes even up to the 2500's, and then every now and then it revs to 1200, drops to about 900 and revs back up to 1200. It does this about 10 to 12 times usually and then it shoots up to somewhere near 1800 and stays there. If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it.

Well i'm sure someone can answer you without a doubt, but it sounds like an idle control sensor type thing. I just don't know the specifics for this car.

Sounds to me like you IAC is dirty and just needs cleaned. Not much money involved here.:) The IAC is located on the TB just below the opening. It is helf in by two 8mm bolts. Do a search on 3si for IAC or ISC and you will find exact directions on cleaning it. There should also be directions on www.stealth316.com Its a simple job that will probably cure your ills. If it doesnt fix it, you may have to pony up for another one. I bought a used one for $60 shipped awhile back. Good luck.

Just for reference, I have a 240sx it has a Idle surge problem also, not as bad as it used to be but... well anyways It ended up being that some bolts on the exhaust header were stripped/broken so I had an exhaust leak or sorts. That corrected my massive idle surge into the 2k range :P but messing around with the TPS and other stuff drove me insane. It's best to have a mechanic look at it.

In this situation you do not need a mechanic. Why go have a mechanic charge you possibly $140 just to look at the car to find out a little valve just needs cleaned?? Its a common issue on these cars and will take up no more than an hour to cure.
