I have a kenwood flip down deck. I have had it for some time now. But never really installed it has always been sitting their at the bottom of the dash thing. At first I had it mounted all nice where the old aftermarket deck was. But when I went to shift I would slam my fingers into the deck on a hard shift. I want to mount the deck up their but I keep hitting it. Would a short shifter slove the problem?

That tends to be a problem. For some odd reason.

yeah thats why i got an symborski bushing kit with it, just waiting for the bushings to come in before i install it. i'm sick of missing 3rd and having it feel slopy. also the yahoo who owned the car before me cut the stock shifter so the knob falls off all the time. I HATE IT!!

Cant u guys work the kenwood flip deck (or any flip deck) with out fliping it down? I know the shifter is reallly really close to the stock deck too but cant u just put the cd in then pop the deck back up and drive?

i installed my B&M short shifter yesterday. I'm not sure how much room it will open up for you. My deck is motorized and slides down and you put the CD in, i don't have issues with it.

Check out my cardomain site for pictures on the install before and after. I can take more pictures if needed to show you how much room there is. If you want i'll measure it...

Nice Cars guys, Could you cut the shift rod to the length that will work and rethread it?

i have a sony flipdown deck, and with the OEM shifter my fingers would hit on occassion, but after putting in the B&M short shifter, that tiny bit of height reduction helped alot.

if you replace the shifter bushings, go for the symborski shift kit from www.machv.com.........i believe mine was $30-35, but wow, ur shift becomes so defined, its awesome!!

i installed a B&M short shifter at 35%, and the symborski mach V kit. the difference was incredible. it feels like a totally different car. mitsubishi shouldve come out with these parts from the factory.

I have heard that ball bearings are better. I am gonna put those in mine I think.

As for the flip out deck. I just put in a DVD player, it is in the top DIN slot and I have had no issues
