I just finished building a new PC today and im running WinXP and there is a second partition (5gb) for linux.

I used to run Redhat 6, but it is getting a little outdated. What do you ppl suggest? Which distribution is your favourite, and where can I download it.

I went to Redhat's website to d/l Redhat 7, but the server is very slow. I also looked on morpheus but could not find it there. Anyone know where I can d/l it at a resinable speed?

This should be ok to post here as it is legal to d/l Linux.

Any comments / suggestions welcome..

a lot of linux distros servers are slow, it takes a while to find a new one. anyways slackware is a good distro but it isnt good for ppl who arent familiar with linux, try mandrake or FreeBSD, mandrake is really easy to setup i believe

Mandrake or Debian. :)

But over all I like FreeBSD. It is best if you want to make a firewall as well.

I used to run Redhat 6.2, I liked it but I ran into a problem uninstalling it. It ate my harddrive, now before you laugh at me this is what happened.

Ok, I go to uninstall, it crashes. It will no longer get past LiLo boot without crashing.

Now, when I use a boot disk to get into dos and run Fdisk this is what happened. I'm seeing 2 partitions, one is 99% of my disk space, and has all my data on it, one is 1% of my disk space and it is blank. Now the problem with this is I couldn't remove any of my partitions or even just format the whole thing because of this screwy error. When I tried to play with my partitions I was told "Cannot delete partition becaus Dos Logic drives do not exist" Well that would be ok, because there wern't any Logic drive partitions... So I figure, I'll make one... No... When I try to create one I get "Cannot Create Dos Logic Drive because one already exists" (or somthing to that effect) Any how, I forget exactialy what else was preventing me from doing anything but trust me, I was stuck :( :(
So I daisy chained it and nuked the whole damn thing and reformatted :D :D
