Cold Air Intake Help

Okay, I'm going to buy a mandrel bent intake off of ebay to save some cash and get aproximatly the same performance. However does anyone know what i need to look for.. what size should the pipe be? and how do I know if the filter is good or bad? also where can I get that thing which prevents hydrolock... since im from Florida and we get tons of rain. thanks for your help im hoping to maybe place an order tonight :)

You can get the AEM bypass filter on ebay, which will solve all of your hydrolocking problems, but I'm not sure that will fit just any filter.

hmmm :( I need the bypass but I didnt want to waste the extra 100$ to get an AEM sticker on the side of my Air Intake.

Yeah I totally understand that, wait to see what other people say, maybe one of them will know if you can use the bypass valve with an ebay filter. I'm in the same place you are, I live in florida and if I get a filter I need the bypass, I'm just not looking for one to persistantly right now. But I would like to know if it would work with any filter.

I think the intake piping should be 2.5 inches. I have an AEM one, and I'm pretty sure that's the measurement on it. And the bypass should work as long as it's the same measurements.

i think im just going to buy the name brand this time, i guess its a good idea anyways since i'm going naturally aspirated so i might as well get the best intake possible even if that means 1-2 hp

The bypass will work with any intake. You just simply cut the pipe where you want to place it. Just make sure it's the same diameter as your piping. I got my AEM intake off Ebay. It's still cheaper than ordering it from a store or another site.

intake piping is 3 inches and i'm pretty sure the bypass valve will work on any intake. i have mine sitting in the closet. i spent the extra $40 for it and i never installed it. i live in miami, FL, and so far, i haven't run into any trouble, even though we haven't had one of those 3 day rainstorms that drop a foot and a half of rain in a while, and in that case, i don't think even a stock lude should try going through that. but yea, just remember, if you see a big puddle try to avoid it, and always while the engine is idling, if you're revving it, its sucking in more air, and more likely water

Actually from what I have experienced the stock 4th gen can make it through alot. About a week after I got my lude came the two hurricanes that hit palm beach pretty hard. I was driving around right after one of them because I was bored senseless and I got to a probably 8 inch deep puddle and it covered the street for a few hundred feet and I would have turned around but there was no place to so I went through it, and I didn't have any problems at all. I went through it pretty darn slow in a high gear so I could practically idle through it but I made it.

im supposed to cut a hole in my intake to put it in?

Not a hole. You just have to slice a small part of the the intake pipe because the bypass filter takes up like an inch or two and if you don't cut it your intake will sit an inch or two from the spot that you want it to.
