Tiburons and Supercharging

I'm in the market for a 2005 Tiburon...I've been a fan of the new Tibs for a few years now, since I first saw the 2003's, but I've held off, considering that the car I have now is reliable and I've been ambivalent about their ability to run with more boost...a la supercharging...

So, I'm wondering...what type of fuel do you have to use with an Alpine? Is 93 octane required, or can you run lower octanes without catastrophic failure? (ie, *boom*crunch*oh God, there goes $25,000 just because I bought cheap gas)...

Also, what is the reliability of the Delta engine? Well, perhaps that's phrased stupidly, since the engine was DESIGNED for reliability in the first place...

Don't get me wrong...I'm a HUGE Tiburon fan, for my money, there is NO other import with looks as good as this puppy...I've checked out others rides for inspiration and info, but am just slightly hesitant about taking the plunge...

Also, just for curiousities sake, is the engine out of the XG-350 compatible with the six-speed tranny in the Tiburon?

the Xg-350 engine swap has been done before... mostly jus for turbo purposes... i havent heard anything about needing to swap out the trannies... not worth it in my opinion

so its down to the i-4 and the v6
the Beta II can handle pretty much anything you throw at it, its built very well and responds so well to boost.
there are only turbo applications out for the i-4 as of right now.. no super chargers as of yet.
the Beta II doesnt respond as well to N/A mods as it does with forced induction.

the Delta (V6 engine) is built very well also (dispite it being a hyundai)
the engine can apparently take about 450 whp before it shows signs of it falling apart around 400-415 beofre the rods start giving way

alpine developments designed the first s/c for the tib and has been proven over time and has made hundreds of tib owners happy.
they have 3 stages now..
stage 0
stage 1
stage 2

nxtgenmotorsports.com took the alpine (literally) to the max!
they have all of alpines stages (0-2)
but also have their versions of stages
fuel tuners/ new internals/ long blocks/ short blocks ... the list goes on

ripp mods has an s/c out for the tib but is not released to teh public yet (proto typers are still being tested)
its putting down about 317 whp when it was correctly tuned... thats stage 2.. they have 2 stages

(both ripp mods and nxtgen's sites are listed in the stickied thread)

there are 2 custom turbo kits out that people have made for the V6..
and nxtgen should be coming out with his own turbo application soon (within a week or 2) ... it ssupose to be a monster.. and very inexpensive

also theres the AXIS Twin Turbo kit... that is from korea.. needs to be imported and etc etc.. very expensive but putting down about 400whp (on an auto) and its runnin in the 12s.. i think

can you tell me any sites where i could get a supercharger?

speeddemonGtV6
01-02-2005, 07:06 PM
so u all want superchargers?? well ive been looking for one too up untill today when someone suggested twin turbo.... first i will need to kno what your tib is inline 4 or the v6. there are no superchargers available for the i-4 just yet but for the gt you will find what u need here... let me know if u have anymore questions..

I was asking if the six-speed transmission from the Tiburon would work with the XG engine...
There is no way I'm going back to a four-cylinder automatic "sport" car...*had a 1987 Dodge Charger as a first car, and hated every second of getting up to highway speed*...
So obviously I'll be getting the GT-V6...but I was just curious about the XG engine, because when you start out with a bigger powerplant, it's easier to make power...and let's face it, more torque is always a nice thing, even in 2+2 hatchbacks...since I'm currently driving a Jeep Cherokee Sport with a straight shift, losing hp and fun is NOT something I'm looking for...

speeddemonGtV6
01-04-2005, 03:27 PM
yea you could do the swap if u had the money.... like nisco said b4 its been done b4 but who knows what they did to make it work ill try to find out

uh...another dumb question, whats the difference between a supercharger and a turbocharger?

youre gonna have to search for that

speeddemonGtV6

the only big diff between a s/c and turbo is that the s/c runs off the engine and the turbo runs off exhaust but has lag..

gileadexile
01-05-2005, 06:09 PM
Alright, now that everyone understands about the differences between turbo and super, perhaps I can ask THIS question!

After dropping on an Alpine, do you have to switch to 93 octane? I'm not willing to get bigger power (you have to remember that I'm a Jeep Cherokee Sport guy at the moment, so I'm USED to power) at the cost of...well...blowing up my engine because of knocking and pinging...

I don't know if this is just an old mechanics tale, an urban legend, or just car owner nightmare stories, but that would absolutely friggin suck...because what are you going to do if (and I've seen this with my own eyes) you're at the pump and they're out of high-test?

You're miles away from any other station, your car is on fumes...kind of redefines the word "suck" to me...

speeddemonGtV6

ok im really not sure about this one but i was checkin their website out and it says nothing about switching so i dont think its required but do smoe more research and let me know what u find.... anymore questions?

the gas you use... depends on the ecu/ ecu upgrade...
http://www.real-engineering.com/products.php search around here.. they do custom ecu tuning to your request/ what youll need for your engine set up

01-07-2005, 08:20 PM
Now that's just sexy...now that I know that I won't have to worry too bad about going broke paying for premium gas or blowing up my engine, I am supremely comforted...

All I have to do now is sit back and wait for the slowass dealerships to get in a black 2005 GT-V6

humm. ok. the octane level you use depends on what your trying to do. the higher the octane the harder it is to spark in whe quench area. thats why people use diffrent plugs and wires when useing turbos. lower octane fuel has a tendency to ingnite faster before reaching the quench area durring the timing cycle. (i dont know specificly what the 4 stroke cycle looks like in the tib) giving more knock or detination. so higher octane gas is nessissary. as for your engine going Tits up. your ecu and knock sensors as well as cas's will know whats going on and pull timming advance so that dosn't happen. thats were the term "tuning" comes in.

as for swaping, keep the i-4 cvvt it will prove better reliableity and gas milage. i would though be intrested in seeing somone buy the new Tuson interactive toqure mangment AWD system with electronic stebility controle and install it on their tib. they should be a dirrect bolt. i think its a matter of time before hyundai comes out with a Elantra awd. sence the tuson is on the unibody from the elantra.
