My friend Kyle and i were mad bored New Years eve....and since the bastard lost his licence a fews months back we hopped into my Mustang and went cruising for a bit.....I started down Main street and we pulled up beside this 91-94 red Eclipse(1st-2nd gen maybe??)..I looked over and checked out the kids ride..it looked completly stock and the kid was minding his own business so when the green light came on i took off slowly and he did too...I then got the urge to plant my gas pedal into the firewall and he must of saw it coming because he floored it too.....I heard the tell tale WHUMpH of a Cold air intake when he opened it up and he got at least half a car length on me before we hit the oncoming 3-way junction..My friend urged me to follow the DSM so i got back on his tail and passed the mo-fo(2-lane road perfectly legal)...He took the bait and got on my ass.....He were in midly congested traffic so i kept it chill while he continued to ride me like a donkey..we had an open road a few minutes later and i took off with the Eclipse in pursuit....He got beside me and i popped my tranny into neutral and let him knew that i too had Cold air induction....he shook his head and slowed down to take right onto this street while we drove off...hummph he must of felt intimidated

I have a 1999 GT, and 90% of the DSMs around here would hand me my ass. However, they are mostly heavily modified, and most are GS-X. Maybe ill give some runs from a roll. I cant wait till I get the $ for my turbo project...then well have fun, even with thier AWD launch like hell.

the only thing i'm thinkin of is that he heard the sound of some type of intake and automatically assumed that it was CAI...i put just a cone filter on both of my cars and it made the engine do the tell-tale WHUMP noise too...but i also heard that if u have a true CAI it is quieter than having just a short ram air or just the cone filter. and also...it most likely was not turbo'd because i was keeping up with a non-turbo'd 2nd gen talon and i started off in low RPMs to boot...

Ah, he's just new to the whole matter. I'm assuming this is like his very first performance mod ever on any car he's owned. True it does change the tone of your exhaust and make it sound meaner, but that doesn't mean everyone has CAI under the hood. What you are probably hearing is the intake sucking in air. I tend to hear a little psshhh when my car starts to suck in more are. Like most have mentioned, even a simple cone filter could change that.
Nonetheless, I think everyone should stop ripping on the poor kid, including myself. Atleast he's admitted to his faults, and is now becoming a descent contributor to these forums. So from me, Burntrice, I apologize for previous statements towards you. And don't worry it is an honest mistake to assume you heard CAI. Good story anyhow. Late...

From the way he describes it it sounds to me like it was a base model 1.8 SOHC. cause I had a 2.0 DOHC n/a and it too smoked v6 ponies. and no I wassnt ripping on him, I'm glad he smoked someone, this poor guy gets crap from everyone, you BS once and they just never let it go. i'm not ripping the guy, i'm just saying no stock mustang v6 or v8 can touch a turbo dsm. the new 05's are a little faster so they are different, but besides that there's just no way. a gt might get me off the line cause i only got FWD, but as soon as i get boost he's gone.

i'm confused...intimidated?...no most likely not, V6 stangs won't race me for crap (besides one and i'm waiting for tires) because they know...they are slow, now the turbo dsms are a little bit faster stock for stock than my car so i find it hard to believe that you intimidated a turbo dsm or for that matter a non-turbo 4g63 dsm just because the power to weight ratio is not in favor of your 3.8 liter 150 hp pushrod V6 3,000lbs compared to a 2.0 liter dohc i4 2600?? prolly less pounds
if you live nearby i know a couple guys w/ V6 mustangs that'll race you for gas $$
know your competition...know them better than they know themselves...and especially NT eclipses, 240's, honda's, and cavaliers because that will be your best competition

yeah i know the new generation stang gt is no joke. all i'm saying is a few bills on a turbo DSM and it can spank the older GT's all day. how do i know? because a few basic mods can easly get a turbo dsm into the high 13's or low 14's with very little tuning.

stock for stock any 00+ gt mustang will take you off the line and you most likely won't get the chance to see his front bumper ever again, believe me, these v8 00+ stangs make up plenty for their v6 model's shortcomings and lack of speed.

And someone said something about him getting dual exhaust, gt stuff...That reminds me of a 'cobra' I saw the other day. I saw him pull out...dude..it looked so convincing. I was like WOW, a cobra! and then I heard him accelerate. and I started laughing. Poor little six bangers. And um...since when is a six cylinder mustang a race car? okay, my bad, but still i bet the gsx wasn't running good, or the driver was crap, cuz you should have lost. Unless you are an unbelievably good driver. A gsx will kill you off the start, and then its all about you catching up, which isn't easy:()

They made a GSX in 99? and I don't have a 99 mustang...I have an 02, just to let you know. and less than a second is a huge difference in quarter mile...are you insane? I think you mean a tenth? because there's definitely a difference in 15 seconds and 14 seconds. and I'm not buying the 'it wasn't running good' or the driver was crap. he was a good driver...but I'm just a better driver.

Well, 75% of the time, a turbo dsm, is not running good, trust me, and you can ask any dsmer. Yes, my tsi is at a 14 second quarter right now. Yes, 99 was the last year they made the gsx, dsm was technically over in 98(because eagle died), but mitsu continued the car for 1 more year.

Great, now some noob has started a domestic vs import thread. I'd generally rather drive an import than domestics, but unlike you losers, I stay realistic and use common sense. A 99 + GT is faster than a GSX. Yes, it will have a better launch, but it won't last long enough. What's so hard to understand about FACTS? Maybe 2 out of 50 times a GSX will beat a GT if it's a shitty driver driving an automatic, but that's about it. 95% of the time, the GT will win.

Thank you, TypeS. and 973eclipse...I've beat GSXs from a dig. beating a 99+ GT from a roll is nothing special. The only way I race from a roll is if it's from second gear..otherwise I wont have much of a chance against anything worth running.

14.9 1/4 mile was a stock time from car and driver. as 97_3clipse said its a good time for a stock GST with a good driver.

14.9 1/4 mile was a stock time from car and driver. as 97_3clipse said its a good time for a stock GST with a good driver.

Well, i beleive a dsmer, is some one that does performance(speed) mods to there car, not audio, and suspension only. Good choice on dropping out, looks like you were going to get owned/fryed pretty soon.

Thank you, TypeS. and 973eclipse...I've beat GSXs from a dig. beating a 99+ GT from a roll is nothing special. The only way I race from a roll is if it's from second gear..otherwise I wont have much of a chance against anything worth running.

Doing performace mods in the spring. Injen intake, Greddy type-s BOV, dejon tool UICP, borla catback.

yes but 14.9 is possible for my car to do stock. since i don't plan on going to the track to find out. thats the best and most accurate for my car's 1/4 mile

99+ GT Mustang is going to beat a stock GST or GSX any day.. considering both drivers are equal. I've never lost to a stock GST or GSX.. and I haven't even tried to race a newer Mustang GT because I already know how it would end up... I'd be looking at tail lights.

this makes me really want to stop streetracing cause im realizing how bias and argumentative ppl are about their cars, LOL, but its expected. I'll be a camera man...so no trouble for me. I think it has more than been decided guys...stock vs. stock - GT > DSM...end of discussion.

well, when someone with a slower car tries to tell me they're faster I have to prove to them they're wrong. what if someone was trying to tell you their stock civic was beating GS-Ts? Of course you'd be like 'no way, my car runs so and so time and yours runs so and so time slower!'.
