iPod hook up to head unit

I just took the head unit out of my recently totalled truck and installed it into my new car that i bought a couple days ago. The install went flawlessly, which surprised me seeing as i'm new to this whole car audio thing. But anyways, on the back of my head unit i have Red and white inputs for spearks or something i dunno what they're for. And i got to thinking.
I have a cable that takes like a cd player's headphones jack and splits it into audio inputs (red and white plugs, like the ones on VCR's). Is it possible to use those to plug my ipod into my car stereo? or are those inputs for something else? like extra speakers or something? any help would be appreciated. thx!

The red and white inputs is so that you can hook up an external audio input. If you ever messed around with your stereo and changed it to AUX mode, that is what those inputs are for. You can hook anything with RCAs into a cd player... so basically the answer is yes. You can use that to hook up your ipod.

let me re-phrase that.... you can hook anything with RCAs into a head unit with an AUX input.. which is what youve got.

More than likely those RCAs are output not input.

yea, how sure are you that its an input? If there is only one pair of RCA jacks, then its not an input, it is a pre amp output.

Yeah there's only one, so it's most likely an output....o well it was just ahunch that would be cool if it could work but it probably wont so i wont mess with it. thx anyways guys

You can buy a fm modulator thingy (some technical name like that ;) ) and tune your radio to a certain FM station and listen to your ipod that way. I think they even make some that hook in betwen your antana and radio that can be switched on and off and you just plug your stuff into it.

yeah i've heard of stuff like that. I was looking to see if this would be a cheaper way to do it, rather than spending 40 dollars on a griffen iTrip or w/e. I'm a highschool student with no job, can't you tell? Want everything done cheap. lol, well anyways looks like i'll start saving my money, thx again guys
