First check fuses.
If ok, then get a test light and start a process of elimination to chase this down.
See if there is power at the bulb sockets when the shifter is placed in reverse.
See if there is power into, and then out of, the reverse switch on the tranny, (I don't know, can someone else tell us if there is even an external switch on the tranny that can even be accessed to check this out?)
Let us know what you find out.
Dave

Don't forget to check the bulb sockets for corrosion, tight fit, etc...

Keep up the process of elimination...(BTW, besides broken or disconnected wires, electrical problems are very often due to corroded connections or poor ground. Be sure to check that at each switch and terminal point).
Good luck

try rocking the shifter arm back and forth in the reverse position, see if the backup lights might flicker on and off. probably a bad/dirty contact in the steering column

I had the same problem, It was the tranny switch. It is located at the rear of the trans on the drivers side. It is easy to replace and not that expensine. Be sure to replace the gasket with a new one to prevent any leaks. Good Luck

How long did it take you to replace the part? I also read that it located on the trans case and when switch is removed trans fluid spills out and need a bucket. How much fluid comes out??
