I'm just about to buy a 91 EF hatch and put a jdm b16 in it for a daily driver and put the usual on it i/h/e. I was wondering what types of cars I would be able to beat with the car like this.

With a couple extra things, i bet you could dip it into the 13's easy.
I don't know exactly what a b16 puts down with bolt-ons, but i reckon that's a solid 14 second pass.
To put that into perspective, S2000's, RX8's, WRX's and 350Z's run 14's.

I was just wondering because i've never driven a car with a b16 in it i've had an h22 prelude which has more hp and tq then a b16 and i've also had a Gsr eg before which also has a few more hp and torque and the trannies are different on all 3 of them.

^a b16 would prolly not be able to beat those cars w/bolt ons - doesnt have the torque... with some head work, could be possible

I also own an h22 prelude. I'm not too keen on the b-series stuff, but given an EF's weight, a b16 should pull one pretty decently. My cousin has a 95 Del Sol VTEC (b16a3) and its putting down a low 15 with intake and exhaust. So a b16 with bolt ons in an EF would easily run a mid 14. Cams would probably drop you another couple of tenths.
95whitehb, I didn't mean to imply that a b16 would beat those cars, I was just saying that they were all in the same performance spectrum (quartermile-wise); a 14.1 and a 14.9 are still far off from each other, I was just using "14 seconds" as a figure to compare by. You also have to put into consideration the power to weight ratio. An EF hatch is incredibly light. And even though a b16 lacks torque; its not very peaky, so the torque curve is flat, which is desirable. Its not so much how much torque you make, its by how much you can multipily it, or "hold it"; its called torque multiplication factor. Its the reason a Prelude can beat cars like V6 Camaros.

I eventually would want to turbo the motor and pretty much leave the internal stock and run low boost and most like want to change out the b16 tranny for maybe a GSR tranny so I could race on the freeway, i've heard that b16 trannies gears are so short thats what i loved about my prelude was the freeway racing. what to you have done to your prelude

My Prelude is pretty much stock besides an intake. I had an aftermarket header on it but it cracked, so now i'm back to the stock header. My RSR is on its way and I'll soon be sending my intake manifold to blacktrax to be modified. PSPEC is releasing their revised shifter assembly soon, so I also have money set aside for that.

I'm also considering putting a b20 in my EF theres no vtec but that would be a pretty stout motor i can live without vtec if im still waxxin b16 and some GSR's

If you're swapping in a B20, you might as well swap a VTEC head while you're at it. I'd recommend a b16 head; and since the motor is cracked open, you might as well toss in some CTR cams :) :2cents:

i personally wouldnt want to build a hybrid motor just because i believe that there is a lack of efficiency, i have heard of people doing ls vtec and b20 vtecs and getting them to work good without any problems but i've heard of more bad cases then good but thats just my opinion.
