Automatic civic tranny

I'm rebuilding a L4 auto tranny that came out of an '88 civic sedan. Every really looks in good shape, all the gears and clutches as well as most filters and valve bodys look pretty good, but there are a multitude of parts you need to replace putting the thing back together. Where would I be able to find a quality rebuild kit for this thing? (price is no object) The only rebuild kits I can find are for more popular(?) american stuff.
Also, I've heard briefly about a "shift kit" that can make the shifts faster. That doesnt seem like it would work... is it a real thing or just another import gimmick ?

Gah! As far as speed goes, gearing is very important to a light weight - low powered car. Learn to drive a 5 speed if you want to be faster.

I guess honda automatics last forever. Nobody makes rebuild kits for them. Thanks anyway guys.

A shift kit reduces slipage between the friction disk in the tranny.By causing the transmission to engage the friction disk faster. The firmer the shift the less slipage. The less slipage the less heat build up.Heat is the #1 cause of transmission failure. The softer shift you get in most cars is slippage.they build them like that because most people dont like a hard shift. Why would you need a shift kit in a honda? My 1989 civic with 165,000 on it without a shift kit will jerk your head off on full throttle shifts.

i'd put a shift kit in a honda :) it would be fun, chirping 2nd and 3rd gear :D
i loved the ride in my buddys stang with his shift kit, all it does is keep the power to the ground constantly, altho there are some shiftkits out there that are very harsh and that "chirp" u hear is actually the tires locking up for a second when it shifts
as for a rebuild kit, try the dealership, i'm sure they can get one

well i got some info and and he said, well if you want a new tranny he suggested to look around. how much you willing to spend? if you have a good amount of funds just get a new/reman. from somewhere. If not just find a good solid rebuild or parts for it. As for the "torque converter" i was corrected its a Stall converter. sorry for the mishap...
