replacing truck bed

I am planning on replacing the bed of my pick up. It is an 89 toyota that still runs great, but needs major body work. I think it would be easier to replace the bed, than to try to patch all the holes. Does anyone have any idea on how much work that would involve and how heavy is the bed. Should I have an army to help me??? Thanks!

Yes, you will need help, 4 to five people. Disconnect the fuel filler, wiring, anything else that might cause the bed to hang up. Place a heavy blanket or furniture pad between the bed and the cab. Have saw horses or stands available to place the bed on. Undo the bolts that secure the bed to the frame. You and the small army slowly lift the bed making sure nothing is hanging it up. Check with the dealer parts counter to see if any seals or rubber pads are necessary. Ask to see the blow-up diagram (go at a time when they are not to busy).
I have used a saw-sall to cut up large body parts or cars for easy disposal. Just take the scrap metal to a wrecking yard or metal recycling center (just call ahead to make sure they will accept it).
Library may have repair manuals that may have detailed instructions.

I have swapped beds on my 86 single cab. I know that the beds are different in design. I did this with myself and a friend, the bed was not heavy. There was also not much attached to the bed, wiring harness, fuel filler hose, lights

2WD p/u's with blown 22R's are easy to find for next to nothing (in my area). Take the bed and junk the rest.

First my I say the fiberglass beds are beautiful and the also sell lots of other great products. That said unless your rebuilding it I'd just spend 50 bucks on sheet metal and patch her up, cause the frame probably has it's own issues on the way if the bodies that bad if you send me some pics to [email protected] I'll give you some more informed advice and send you some pics of the patch job I've done.
