Heres a silly question.

We all know NOS makes your car go faster but how does it work? How much more power does NOS add? Is it HP thats created? When you do use it how much do you use? A whole bottle? A shot?
Now I know these questions look silly but it just occured to me I know nothing about NOS except it makes cars go faster.

IT`S NOT NOS, IT`S NITROUS OXIDE!!!! NOS is a division of holley, Nitrous Oxide Systems. Call it nitrous oxide, nitrouse for short. Stay away from the stuff, go buy a turbo and you have constant power that you can turn off with a boost controller and then turn back on when you want or need it. Nitrous burns your engine and costs money to refill and plus, in most places, it`s illegal to have an open bottle in your car. Turbos are street legal, if emissions isn`t a problem, and they are safer for your engine.

Like I said, I knew nothing about NOSSS. NOS is the term its widely known for. I know NOS is actually Nitrous Oxide Systems but whatever. Come to think of it, everyone I know referrs to it as spray.
Anyway, I wasn't even thinking about installing it in my ride. I just realized I knew nothing about it and I was hoping I could get some info on it. I'm all about turbos or s/c myself when it comes to FI.

What most people dont understand with nitrous, is your injecting COLD no2 into your engine. Thats how mayny motors go, they dont have a good enough fuel management system to account for this shot of nitrous. Cold o2 is denser than hot, so thats why your really making horse power. There is alot of available o2 to atomize with the fuel. Nitrous is a money pit, unless oyu like wearing and tearing your engine 10x faster than normal.

Turbos are much safer, and pretty much do similar things to your engine as nitrous, except long term it is better for your engine!

you are not making a whole lot more power (but still some) cause it is cold, you are making it cause it is like 36% oxygen (in n20) instead of 22% (in atmosphere).

Well, technically speaking yes. Colder o2 is more dense, thus containing more air molecules.
