Clutch Pedal Problem

I recently have had problems with my clutch pedal in my 2003 TDI Golf. The pedal was descended nearly to the floor. I also could barely get into any gear.

I took the car into the dealer and they said they could not find anything wrong. I had a friend pick the car up for me as I was out of town and she also said it ran fine. The next time I tried to start the car I had the same problem. I eventually looked at the pedal and pushed it with my hand. It popped out somehow to its normal position and now everything seems to work fine.

Both times I had this problem the car was parked in gear on a hill for extended periods of time.

Does anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong?

If the pedal dropped to the floor and did not come back up it seems like there might be air in the system. Although the clutch cylinder is part of the brake master cylinder the slave cylinder in the transmission is a different part. The brake system and clutch system on 99+ vw's both use the same fluid at the same time. Try getting your brake fluid flushed and also have the clutch slave cylinder on the top of the trans blead while they do the brakes. VW uses a special machine that presurizes the system and literally "forces" out air and dirty fluid.
