I was wondering if my 89 mustang would come stock with a trans that will support my 5.0 when i put in it? Mine is a 5spd trans. Also if i put a bigger cam in my engine what all in my engine will i have to replace.

THe T-5 that comes with the 4 banger is not rated to take the power of the V8. You will break the input shaft..

If your talking about the shifter, a short throw shifter will have a positive affect on the performance of the car. Shorter Shifts = Better ET's.

Also the input shaf is different from a 4cyl T5, but a different throw out bearing and spacer should make it work from what I remember.

The torque that a 5.0 puts out is a lot for that 4 banger trans to handle. I'm thinking you can use it though, along with the rear end. The way i see it if dont use it you not gonna need it so try it if you break it then you gotta change it, if you dont then you saved some money.

I have also heard that you would have to change the brakes.
