Starter Problems

I have a 95 1/2 Honda Passport that starts about half of the time. When it starts the starter engages and the motor starts instantly. When it does not I simply hear a click as if the starter is not engaging. I bought a new starter and I am in the process of replacing. Any suggestions on getting the old one out without removing the exhaust? Also, I am just guessing the starter is the problem. Any other suspect parts I should inspect. Thanks!

Your correct your start is the problem. You may want to clean your connections to see if it solves your starting problem too (includin the battery and ground points).

When I did my starter, I could see no other option than to remove the exhaust Y-pipe. Careful, I busted a stud on mine.

I had a similar issue with my '96 Rodeo and had to change the starter. I could not get the exhaust pipe off and after hours of trying to get the starter past the pipe, I finally read a post in which they reccomended to very carefully take the new starter apart and put it back together in place above the exhaust. I tried this and it was pretty simple. A year an a half later, the new starter is working fine.
Good Luck!

I have a similar issues with my current 1993 ROdeo...after changing the battery, the engine would start fine, but after driving an hour or so, I would stop for a gas and would try cranking the engine again, but it would turnover slow and I had to crank it twice sometimes before the engine fires up....I also cleaned the alternator and batter cables and leads, and the problem is still there......could this also be a starter issue?? Is this easy to swap out on a 93???

Where can I purchase a starter for the 93?
