Acts Like it is missing!

:banghead: I have a 99 2.0 SP Escort. While driving the car it acts like the engine is missing. It seems to shutter like a miss and then runs OK for a while it feels like there is water in the fuel but I have put ample dry gas in the tank to resolve that issue. It will do this several times and then it will run OK for a while. It seems to do this more when the weather is warmer than when it it cold. I have just had it in the shop. No codes in the computer, changed fuel filter, fuel pressure is OK, fuel pump has less than 30K on it. Plugs were changed 10k ago. Still has OE wires and coil. No one can seem to figure it out so I thought I would post it to see if anyone has any ideas.

No arcing but I am going to replace the coil and wires just in case. I had it out today and did the same exact thing. Temp was 40 degrees. I check the wires yesterday and didn't find anything. For bigrod 118 I put a bottle of heet in the car but still doing the same thing.

More than likely it is just the wires since you said they were O.E. Try those first before you spend $$ on a coil pack. If it is not fuel related, it is probably ignition related. Wires can go bad without showing any signs of wear. And be sure to route them through all the little plastic holders, otherwise, you'll have the same problem in a few months.

get 9mm wires....I can fry OE 8mm in 30 seconds, and I'm still stock in the electronics area. I have been unable to fry the 9mm, I've tried yes, but I'm also using MotorCraft Platinums gapped to .054. Get the cheapest 9mm, from AutoZone, for like $14, it's worth it.

EDIT: haha, me and Nova, up there, always hit up these threads with the same response...lol....wonder why :icon16:

I wanted to let everyone know that I replaced the wires and it runs like a new one. Thanks for the help.

Had to get 8mm that was all they had and I didn't have time to wait. I will keep looking and change them in the spring.
