so which would you guys recommend? synthetic or regular oil? and is there proof that one is better than the other?

The two main differences are:

Synthetic costs more than conventional.

Synthetic's consistency will take longer to break down than conventional.

If you do oil changes strictly every 2500-3000 miles, then you should just use conventional. If you slack off on your oil changes, you should use Synthetic because it will protect longer.

I use Mobil 1 because I can get it reasonably cheap and the T4 is used for severe service (lots of stop/go short runs). I still change oil & filter every 3000miles though.

In general, a synthetic oil will have a better viscosity index:confused: which means that it's thickness or viscosity will vary less with temperature. That means it will be a thinner oil (than mineral oil) on cold startup and get to the bearing surfaces faster. Once hot, it won't thin out as much as mineral oil so it can better separate the friction surfaces.

cuz i heard from my friend (mustang owner and fanatic), that synthetic was better just overall. he showed me this one site that says sumthing like that synthetic will prevent deposits unlike conventional oil. But i read sum where that synthetic was pointless cuz sumthing the temperature oil at never reaches the point where it burns?? hence the unnecessary viscosity rate?? dont quote me on that haha i think thats wat ive read sumwhere. and plus my friend, whos a mechanic that does honda transplants says synthetic was shit. (his shop is like one of the top 5 or sumthing out of the US for honda transplants.)
i mean im probably gonna stick to conventional unless i find some compeling evidence cuz i dont really wanna dish out that extra money on sumthing that i dont need. and yeah i change my oil every 3000 miles

People will argue both ways and have proof. I say go with dinosaur oil and so does the dealer. Dealer says the fake stuff will clog up the intake tubes and you'll have premature cam wear.

I just use Mobil 1 Synthetic blend. Not the best, but for $8 for a one liter jug, it does give a little extra protection, IMHO.

I use full syn, but I slowly got my car adapted to it. I did 2 oil changes with the syn blend before changing fully over to the synthetic.

I tend to do a lot of city driving, and I was told that the cost for the syn is worth it to protect the engine better in city conditions. Could be I'm just dumb and believed it, but I do like the way "Sophie" ran when I finally changed over to full syn. Not to mention that I can get an easy 4000 miles out of the synthetic blend for only about $2 more per liter.

I use fully synthetic oil and change the oil every 4500-5000 miles. My friend works at Kraigen so we get all our oil and filters for FREE! :flash: :smoker: :licker: ;) :p :D :)  :alien2: :bandit: :frog: :smoka: :smoker2:

depends on the way you drive, and what you have under the hood. for hotter temps, synthetic is better for the engine. and ppl above had made that point. i run synthetic cuz i drive hard. =) and again, everything has been analyzed above. definitely good answer by t4.

if you're not running turbo..then synthetic isn't really that important or does anything better tahn conventional oil. =)

so you guys that have been using synthetic never experienced crap build up or premature cam wear?

i do mostly highway driving, but i guess ill go with synthetic :D jsut to be on teh safe side

Mobil 1 faithfully, also K&N oil filter. I have JWT cams ECU and STILLEN header. Engine runs smoother.
