Chopped Muffler/Illegal..?

I cannot find the answer to this, no joke.

If i chop off my mufflers, will i NOT be able to get my car inspected..? I'm gonna leave all cats on, just take off the mufflers and replace them with 2ft chrome pipe.

This including removing my air silencer, and running tube down to my passenger fender wall with a k&n conical filter, with a fabricated air duct (ram air).

Hopefully this will give my baby some more pep and sound.

As it is in australia new cars after 1988(??) cannot have a higher output of dB but cars before that can, I'm not sure of their limits. But it might be the same in USA i'm not sure.

nearly all states require that you use a muffler, additionally many states have a specific dB level (usually around 95 dB) that is the maximum allowed.

Here in florida the dB maximum is 95dB. But if you live in a rural area (like i do) as long as you dont go riding through town neutral dropping your engine all you will od is attract mre attendtion if you are speeding. but the cops usually wont ticket you. a "fix it ticket" at most and all you have to do is re install a muffler and they have to see that it has been installed. There are plenty of rednecks around here where i live that have straights. no cat or anything. right out of the headers. some efen have exaust coming right out of the headers, no pipes, but this is usually on mud trucks only.

Thanks guys, it's not to loud if i keep my cats on there, i'm gonna do it, then keep my mufflers somewhere incase i gotta remount them for an inspection.
