2002 Envoy seats

First off my wife picked this car out to buy. Before we(she mostly)were driving a 2000 Dodge Neon. The Neon was not fancy as compared to the Envoy. Hate to say it but putting more "buttons" on a vehicle does not make it better. The Neon is a very good $12500 "new" car. The driving position was very good and the seat's were the best that I have seen. There were not power seat's nor did they have any lumbar adjustment button. You could drive that car nonstop for 5 hours and not get tired. Now we get to the Envoy. It to does everything very well "except" the highly priced "leather" seats. Makes me wonder what the heck is so special about leather seat's? Still trying to figure that one out. Anyway the Envoy has all these power seat adjustment's and lumbar adjustment's and it still feels like your sitting on a flat piece of cardboard. There is absolutley no side bolster support or side support for your back. Like I said my wife drives this car 98% of the time. When I drive it,it seems like your always going to "slide" out of your seat when you go around a corner. Do you other Envoy owners feel the sameway? I read some info on the Envoy and the people that tested it also said that the seat's were flat. You would think that all car companies would pay attention to this. What's your opinion about the seat's? Other than the seat problem the Envoy is a very nice vehicle to drive. The one thing GMC did right was the handleing of this vehicle. It's perfect. But the seat's? Not so hot.

I too have an Envoy and while the seats are fairly soft, I agree that they could use some more side bolstering. One idea I have been thinking of is to take them out and bring them to an upholstery shop and get them to "tweak" them to how I want. Also, the head rests! They suck. You can't even lean your head back into them to "rest". I will definately be pulling those and rebuilding them thicker so that they can be of use. On long trips it is nice to set your head back and cruise.

My 02 Envoy SLT has the leather seats.

My friends 04 Trailblazer has cloth seats. I actually favor the TB's cloth seats over my Envoys - they are SO much more comfortable. The leather is nice and all, but firm. My butt will hurt after 3 hours of driving in the Envoy.

As far as side lumbar goes, have you ever driven in a Yukon? My parents have an 04 Yukon Denali and those are verrrryyy comfortable leather seats with excellent lumbar and side support. I wonder why GM didnt make the high-end Envoy with the same "type" leather seat as the Yukon.

Envoy SLT Loaded = $40k

Yukon Denali Loaded =$50k

I guess the $10k makes the difference! lol

I also own a 95 Ford Explorer which has very good seats. It has great side bolsters so when you sit in the seat you feel "locked in". If you look at the "Recaro" seat you can see where Ford got the idea. The side bolster's for your back and the side bolsters for your thighs are adjustable so anyone can find the proper adjustment. I too have thought of taking the seat out and taking it to interior shop and have them do some work on it. I also think that in my case the previous owner was a "heavy" person who overtime flattened the seat somewhat because the passenger seat has much better support. This is why i'm not ready to fault GMC for my seat problem. The fact is maybe the age group that the Envoy is designed for don't like the side bolsters. I have also noticed that in the "Summit Catalog" you can buy a seat cover that has both "side bolsters". This might be my answer if I was going to drive the Envoy for any extended length of time.

i have a 94 gmc suburban that has the leather seats, i just got this truck for my wife and we both hate the leather seats, but not because of the side suport its excelent they are captains chairs.pull the arm rests down and you have all the side suport you want, the reason we hate them is they are leather, cold in the winter and hot in the summer. dont get me wrong i just dont like the leather the suburban we had before this and had cloth seats and would have prefered the cloth in this one. try captains chairs in the trucks you guys have.
