Timing belt flopped, new engine?

Yes, this is my first post... I was taking a friend to work today, doing fine, start heading up a hill and the rpm's just drop to nothing... Barely rolled all the way up the hell (Thank you god.) and managed to pull into a church parking lot. The car wouldnt turn over at all, so i ended up calling a friend with a tow truck. He came out and knew right away the timing belt was screwed. I had been leaking coolant for a couple of days, turns out my water pump wasnt working, leaked antifreeze onto the timing belt, caused it to slip and eat the threads.

Well, thats the story on that, now i will say something about my car. I just bought it a couple of months ago after bad experiences with an accord. Its an '88 CRX Si, 212500 miles on it. I managed to get a SWEET deal on it. I bought it from some old guy for $480. Anyways, I found a deal with another d16a6, rebuilt with zc pistons, an Si tranny with a brand new clutch, 120k on it. A LOT better than the 212k. He'll sell and put it in for $400. I figure this is a damn good deal and i should do it.

What do you all think I should do?

Well, I can tell you from experience that your engine isnt necessarily shot. My belt broke while driving 65 mph and there was absolutely no damage to the head. If you do decide to get the new motor go for it, seems like a decent deal to me! 400 dollars installed... are you kidding me? :naughty:

Yeah, I'm not saying my engine is shot, I'm just saying why pay the money to fix it, when I can just get a better engine than I already have... I'm not sure if the valves bent when the timing belt went, but all well... The engine sounds real... crappy. Thanks for the welcome. Happy New Year to y'all.

That's a hell of a deal, I'd definitely go for it.

And welcome to the forums.

Quix, I have to give you props on your car... That crx looks damn nice. If I only had a '91...

Thanks man, It is a '90 HF, went from the 8 valve, to the d15b2, then did a mini-me swap, now I have the b18. What next? I've had it for a little over 2 years, and it's been a work in progress. Good luck with yours. BTW my timing belt tensioner crapped out on me the very next day I got my mini-me done, and it's a lot higher compression ratio, and it wasn't as forgiving (if your motor is still good) mine bent the crap outta my valves.

I'm very happy with my b18 so far though.

Again good luck!
