Anyways, I've always wanted a Monte Carlo ever since i was a kid.
I loved the sleek style of the older 80's model cars.
I finally was driving to work today and came across what i believe to be a 81-82 maybe with a turbo 3.8 in it. It has one original owner who turned out to be a 85 y/o man who past away, it only has about 85000 on the clock.
I was just curious if this car was worth $1400 cash?
I also heard about the notorious Buick 3.8 turbo's...is this just Chevy's version of it? If so anybody know any specs on it?
Thanks, Bryan

It's not a turbo. Are you sure about the year and engine size?

If memory serves me correctly, in the early '80s, the 3.8 in the Monte Carlos were a Chevy 229 cu. in. engine. I owned 2 of these, both with that engine. Both cars had engine problems, ( the reason I bought them cheap, as I did most of my own work on them.) One of them I ended up putting a 1979 305 (5.0 liter) engine in , (I know, another engine that wasn't much better for that year.) I drove the car for another 5 years or so without any problems before I sold it.

Yes, I'm positive it's a turbo, it has a hood scoop on the driver side with the Chevy sign and TURBO on it.
I also did some searching on the internet and yes in the early 80s they did make a monte carlo Turbo.

Yeah they did make a few of those turbo montes in the 80's and I believe they are relatively rare. It definately worth around what the asking price of $1400. I believe that the 3.8 is 231 cu in. but I could be wrong. The 3.8 is one of the best engines GM has ever put out. You may want to look into a little newer one with a 4.3 V6 or even find one with a 305 V8. Monte Carlo's are starting to become collectible so buy them reasonably while you still can. Happy New Year

Never heard of a turbo Monte in the 80's. Only the Buick Regal, GN and GNX. Check with www.montecarloss.com (http://www.montecarloss.com) for the full story.

It is a rare turbo Monte Carlo, a somewhat lame carburated turbo moter. It may be worth some $ in the future, but would be a pain as a daily driver IMO.
