Roll the engine, C'mon

Ok, I've read the threads and have been told that it is possible to roll my engine forward so as to do work behind it.
Well I've yanked and pulled till I'm blue in the face.
Are you sure a 3.4 DOHC in a 94 Luimina can be rolled?
Do I need to hook it up to my pick-up truck to pull it forward. Looking at the motor mounts I can see in theory how it would work. The two lower front mount look like they would swivel and the rear mount looks like the engne is just setting on it.
I have to get to my power steering hose and it would make life easier if I had some more room back there

So far today:
Installed new hub assembly
Installed new Crank oil seal
Removed all interference to get to the intake manifold in prep for tomorrow

Next up:
Repair the infamous oil leak
Timing belt replacement
Repair Power steering hose leak
Repair corroded steel waterpump outlet hose

Happy New year!

I'm not quite sure about the 3.4 but I know in the 3.1 if you loosen the motor mounts right above the radiator, you can pull the motor forward. the only thing is you need someone else to help you because when one person pulls the motor forward the other one needs to stick something behind it to pry it forward and to keep it there also. by hand you should be able to pull it forward just far enough to get something behind it. I usually use a bat when I do this and I stick it right behind the motor on the passenger side of the car. hope this might be able to help you.

Nope, no help. I have a friend that has the same engine and he was telling me what about it. When I brought over the Lumina he was surprised at the difference but was convinced it should work. I'll give her another go tomorrow

I have a 3.4 in my lumina ,what I do is simple ,if you have a trolley jack put a piece of plywood on the jack about the same size as your tranny pan, this is important so as not to hurt the pan. Then undo the two mounts above your rad and slowly jack up the back of your motor, this will give you more then enough room to get at your line. But be careful undoing your line the fittings strip very easy.I hope your tall cause when I did mine I had to lay on the motor to reach the sucker.

Be sure you're in neutral, not park, drive, reverse, 1-5, whatever. The engine won't go far with something in the way like that.

Ok fella's. I'll try it today and let you know how I made out.
My cause is tall because I have a bad leak in the power steering hose return line and it is behind the motor.
I suspect I will be working on my back most of the day today fixing this thing.

Best regards

Well, I put 'er in neutral, Hooked up my come-along to my truck and tightened her up.
That moter didn't even budge. I had the line so tight that I was afraid that if she did pitch forward the engine would be in the radiator or the driveway!

Oh well, I have the inlet plenum off so I hope I can reach down there.

Thanks for you help guys.

Best regards,
Ray

Then undo the two mounts above your rad.

If you have two engine mounts above your radiator then you do not have a 3.4 you have a 3.1 overhead valve engine. The 3.4L only has one mount because the cam Keepers get in the way of where the second mount would have been.

you cannot roll the 3.4 without trashing your lower engine mounts.

The 3.4L engine has the plastic cover over the first three injectors and is clearly marked 3.4 DOHC or 3.4 TWIN DOHC. This engine is not designed to roll forward.

I have the 3.4 DOHC. I don't have 2 engine mounts above the radiator. I have one upper mount

Not sure why you thought I had 2 upper mounts.

Sorry, I wasn't clear with my last post. I didn't mean you, nymorey, I was reffering to caper63.
