need help with lude

my buddy just got a 1998 prelude runs bad engine light on no codes book says bad ecu so we took it out and to find out it is 4 a 1997 and honda dealer say it will not work right in that car so he get a 1998 from ebay puts it in the car will not start no fire ???? and he did not get some red key with the car so do we have to get some key codes work done???????????? thanks 4 any help

Punctuate, friend. And check the CEL code... there should be no difference between the 97 and 98 ECUs, besides transmission type.

the dealer said it was the wrong one. the# are diff. 97is obd2a 98 is obd2b.do you have to get the key coded with a new ecu?

yes you need the correct keys with the ecu, there is a red learning key and then the master keys that are programmed to the ecu... the prelude anti-theft system really sucks if you have to replace parts
