I saw on ebay a few days ago a 1970 something mazda rotary "wankel" coupe, went for 50. If i had the cash i would have grabbed it. Very unique looking.

Right now im scouring the net for a toyota 2000gt and a toyota s800, only 2 of each ive seen on these forums, would be great to get a few more in here, sick of seeing enzos and supras and the like.

The rarest one I've seen is the Rosso 1:12 NSX (http://www.best1hobby.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=168&Product_Code=RO12001&Category_Code=dis), which I've seen in my quite happy hands. There are undoubtedly kits out there more rare than it, but I've not seen them. Plus, unfortunately, these cannot ever be reissued no matter what.

Protar 1/12 Fiat 806. Its a 1927 Grand Prix car. I've only seen the one I have and a picture of one from a Swedish model contest. Spent two years looking for it and paid over $200. Currently its half built and sitting on the 'started but not finished' pile.

I've 'seen' the VW Corrado kit, which I know the VW guys go absolutely nuts over. That's the only one I can recall that was 'rare' enough to be way overpriced.

Now about a 1967 Plymounth Fury, by Tamiya? I'll see if I can get a picture of it. My friend showed it to me years ago. Has an interesting spelling mistake on the box too.

Kits Tamiya never made would indeed be rare....

Maybe you're thinking of the Johan kit, or even the Yodel kit?

Nope it was Tamiya, I think there are 4 cars in the series. It was a copy of the, I think Johan kit. It was almost the same, but had little differences that made it unique. I'll try and get some picture in the next few weeks. The Guy that has it, has several kits that a rare, to the point of being the only copies I've ever seen, including pictures. His collection starts with kits producted in the early 50s.

That's hardcore, indeed.
Tamiya released the Fury in 1/25 scale in Nov. 1966 as a part of their Slot Racer series. Other 1/25 slot cars were the Ford Galaxie (Mar.1967) and the Dodge Charger (May 1967).

Tamiya made many interesting subjects in slot car format, like Jaguar D-type, McLaren Elva, Ford GT spyder, Lotus 30, Ferrari 330P2, Prince R380, Lora T70, Lotus 40, King Cobra and Porsche Carrera 6. The bodies were later reused for motorized kits and called Grand Prix Series.

I passed up on one of those a few years ago for a paltry $150.00. I have looked through one and they are beautiful looking kits. Seen a couple go through eBay over the years for big bucks. The Mazda is a lot less rare and the Acura is probably the easiest of the 1/12 stuff to find.

Ah, well if it is the slot car kit which Hiro mentions, that is different, I thought you meant a plastic model kit as we are used to seeing here. :)

Forgot about those, I have the Lotus 40 (a lotus 30, with 10 more problems), and had the Mclaren Elva. Never saw most of the rest, but I know Ron has some of them.

I saw some Modeller's resin kits on eBay which were ending at almost £200. Lancia Delta S4, Ford RS200, Renault 5 Turbo. I would love to build one but not for that price.

I also saw a Tamiya 1/12 McLaren MP4/6 "Clear view" model. In the description it said only 20 of this limited edition were ever made.

I know none of you folks here really care about anything other than sports and imports, but I have an original issue of a George Barris, My Mother the Car kit. it is basically the same as the RMC "T" Touring kit only with all stock wheels and suspension and a custom "Porter" hood and grill. My Mother (pun intended) found it at a garage sale for $0.25.

Those Modellers models are awesome. I hope they re-release some of the Gr.B cars again, they were expensive originally but are stratospheric now.

There are definitely a lot more than 20 of the clear view McLaren. Nicest thing about that kit is the pre-painted Senna driver figure that it also comes with. It is very rare, much rarer than the Ferrari but if you have the money you can still find them. I know at least one online store that has one for sale for $850.00

IHMO, the "rarest" kit is the one you want the baddest but cannot find anywhere and when you do find it you can't afford it!!!

Based on production numbers I have no idea what the rarest kit is. Many of the old MPC, AMT and Johan annuals sell for ridiculuously high prices when they are unbuilt and in mint condition.

I have a few annuals that I have paid $70-80 US for and have even paid $75 US for a nice built up MPC '69 Dodge Coronet R/T. That kit sells in the $200-400 US range mint unbuilt.

Modellers is still in business, but they no longer produce full kits.

Basically and if I rcall correctly, most of the master-makers went to Studio 27...but I'm sure someone will come along soon and tell me I'm full of bunk on that one...Hiro?...;-)>

Rarest I've held in my hands (and why oh WHY did I sell the damn kit. :crying: ) was a Union reissue of the IMC Mecom Lola T-70 Spyder. Opening doors, full engine detail, and just pretty in every every way. In fact, I miss all four of my Union kits. I had at one point the Ferrari 330P4 (was going to combine the Fujimi body with the Union's full engine), the Ferrari 512S, and a Porsche 917-30 alongside the Lola.

I sold them all, stupid me.

Of course, now what I really REALLY want is a Tamiya 1:12th scale Lola T-70 MkIII coupe! :grinyes:

I also have the Revell 'Lightning bug' as Oter showed. I think it's the reissue of the street Bug. Hard to find but won it on ebay a couple of month ago. Bought it for around $20. It's still unbuilt.

The rarest kit I have is (I think) the Revell Corrado Zender. I bought it on the belgian coast for less than €10. In the shelf was also the Corrado Rally version, :twak: I hate me, I had not enought money to buy both. So, I've hidden it behind the shelf and hope to find it back when I'll go to this shop again. I hope another modeler haven't had the idea :thinkerg: of looking between the shelf and the wall.

So I only search for Vw kits but even with this limited search there are lots of old kits I'm looking for. I guess more of them are rare.
