Disappearing Rod Knock????

I have a 1993 concorde with a rod knock that comes and goes, at least it sounds like it. I don't believe it's a rod knock. it is very subtle, cant hear it with the heat on, and disappears if you turn off the engine and immieadiately restart it. It also will go away when its in gear, sometimes. At times it gone for days. My guess is it may have something to do with a cracked flywheel, or something internal in the trans. Am I the only one that has experienced this? Thanks

is it loud or soft? It could be that your oil pump on your transmission is starting to weaken. Check under your car to see if there is red fluid leaking around the front of the transmission.

Its really soft. There is no leakage yet. I notice I hear it less when the engine is still cold. Sometimes it goes awat when put into reverse. I just bought this thing and I am hoping to get some life out of it.
