'03 Heated Seat Recall

Had my '03 ZTW to the dealer because I noticed corrosion in the license plate lights. They replaced both. They told me about a heated seat recall that I hadn't heard about. Anyone know about this recall?
BTW, thanks Chuck for your replies regarding my cold start sputter. The dealership says that it's quite normal in 'this engine'. (I let them keep it overnight and start it the next morning so they could experience it for themselves.)
Finally, this is the first car I've owned with ABS and it scared the crap out of me when I felt the pedal pulsate against my foot for the first time!
Cheers and Happy New Year!

No problem :)
Yeah, ABS will do that to you, and it will scare the s*** out of you if you've never felt it before, but you can know for sure that is was working!

I have an '03 ZTS and the local dealer informed me that the heated seats have a recall on them. I made an appointment for an eval and they told me that I did need to have them replace (they bunch up causing overheating). They said they would order them and call me when they were in. That has been about three months and no word yet.

Hi Grug,
I had the heated seat recall c/o on my ZX5 in Dec 04. I was sent a recall notice shortly after I went in to get my driver's seat pad replaced after it literally gave me a "burning sensation" in the hindquarters(Ya Ya bite yer tongues, Pervos) :naughty: When I asked about the replacements the dealer told me that they were initially being replaced on an "as needed" basis. Then I got the recall notice. No biggie, though. I had the car back the same day. I also got a recall notice for the front springs in the New Year. Ford has generously given me an extended warranty in case they snap due to possibly inadaquate corrosion protection. Given that I live in N. Alberta, this is not giving me a warm fuzzy. Last thing I need is to be stranded in -35C because my suspension may or may not be adaquately protected. In my dealer's (Cold Lake Ford) defence, I keep bringing my car back to them because they do offer great service and I know and trust their mechanics. Hope this was of assistance.

Hey Smug. Thanks for the info. They changed out the heated seats for me and the driver's switch for the heated seat needed replacement, too. You mentioned northern Alberta. I lived in Yellowknife for 7 years and my '90 Ford Ranger went through 3 engines in less than 60 000 km (despite using synthetic oils). It was the 2.9 litre which was eventually discontinued. Now that I'm back in Nova Scotia...I don't see -40ºC too often! Whew!

Would this recall applied to my '02 SVT heated seats? Do they replace the whole seat, or...?

There's a site that has this info, but I can't think of it off the top of my head...just call your dealer with the VIN and model to see if it applies. I really doubt that they would replace the entire seat unless the heater element is a part of the seat, which it probably isn't.

Hey Vint, They pulled the cover off and replaced the pad. I would imagine it's covered but call your dealer or hit the NHTSA website to find out for sure. :sunglasse
